A New Song

Lyrics

I
When my eyes are heavy with sorrow
When my body aches with grief
When my soul is filled with anguish
When my heart grows weak

You save me from my troubles
You deliver me from all shame
You rescue me from my enemies
When I call your name

Chorus
Let all the earth resound in praise
Let the world with hearts ablaze
Sing the wonders of your love sent from above
With one voice
Let the seas rejoice in your Word
Let the hills call out and be heard
Let the chorus fill the air with this pray'r
I sing to you a new song

II
O Lord, you are my fortress
O Lord, you are my home
And underneath your wing
You shelter me from the storm
You save me from my troubles
You deliver me from all shame
You rescue me from my enemies
When I call your name

Chorus

Bridge
For you have done great things
To surround me with your love
With a grateful heart I sing,
I sing

Chorus

Outro
I sing a song,
I sing a song

Information

A New Song is composer Norman Agatep’s own take on a childhood favorite, Sing A New Song by Dan Schutte, which they used to sing during Mass in the ‘70s. Norman found the old hymn joyous and uplifting, and wanted to capture the same energy with a more contemporary gospel sound for a new generation of worshippers.

Inspired by Psalms 31 and 98, the song spells out  the many reasons we seek God, and expresses the sheer exuberance we all feel upon receiving God’s saving grace.

The song’s spirited chorus and infectious rhythm, reinforced by the soulful guitars, gospel organ, and rousing drums, are an invitation for all to sing A New Song to the Lord.
