COME NOW IS THE TIME TO WORSHIP

Come now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are to worship
Come, just as you are before your God

Come.

Chorus

One day every tongue will confess You are God
One day every knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose You now.

Repeat verse I (change chords an octave higher)

1 strum at every chord then an inviting (soft voice) "COME"

entrance song must be majestic, alive... based in musicam sacram

titopao
10.11.04, 02:12 PM
@donex: Can you elaborate on that? Musicam Sacram only has these provision with regard to the entrance hymn, and nothing there states anything about the character or mood of the entrance song:

("degree" of songs)
29. The following belong to the first degree:

(a) In the entrance rites: the greeting of the priest together with the reply of the people; the prayer.

(b) In the Liturgy of the Word: the acclamations at the Gospel.

(c) In the Eucharistic Liturgy: the prayer over the offerings; the preface with its dialogue and the Sanctus; the final doxology of the Canon, the Lord's Prayer with its introduction and embolism; the Pax Domini; the prayer after the Communion; the formulas of dismissal.

31. The following belong to the third degree:

(a) the songs at the Entrance and Communion processions;

(b) the songs after the Lesson or Epistle;

(c) the Alleluia before the Gospel;

(d) the song at the Offertory;

(e) the readings of Sacred Scripture, unless it seems more suitable to proclaim them without singing.

(source for songs)
32. The custom legitimately in use in certain places and widely confirmed by indults, of substituting other songs for the songs given in the Graduale for the Entrance, Offertory and Communion, can be retained according to the judgment of the competent territorial authority, as long as songs of this sort are in keeping with the parts of the Mass, with the feast or with the liturgical season. It is for the same territorial authority to approve the texts of these songs.

The word "majestic" also does NOT appear in Musicam Sacram. Or at least, in the official English translation.

If I may also add, this is what the General Instruction on the Roman Missal (which should take a higher precedence than MS) has to say:

The Entrance

47. After the people have gathered, the Entrance chant begins as the priest enters with the deacon and ministers. The purpose of this chant is to open the celebration, foster the unity of those who have been gathered, introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical season or festivity, and accompany the procession of the priest and ministers.

48. The singing at this time is done either alternately by the choir and the people or in a similar way by the cantor and the people, or entirely by the people, or by the choir alone. In the dioceses of the United States of America there are four options for the Entrance Chant: (1) the antiphon from The Roman Missal or the Psalm from the Roman Gradual as set to music there or in another musical setting; (2) the seasonal antiphon and Psalm of the Simple Gradual; (3) a song from another collection of psalms and antiphons, approved by the Conference of Bishops or the diocesan Bishop, including psalms arranged in responsorial or metrical forms; (4) a suitable liturgical song similarly approved by the Conference of Bishops or the diocesan Bishop.[55]

If there is no singing at the entrance, the antiphon in the Missal is recited either by the faithful, or by some of them, or by a lector; otherwise, it is recited by the priest himself, who may even adapt it as an introductory explanation (cf. no. 31).

Nowhere does it say that the entrance song has to be majestic or alive, the intent is very clear: The purpose of this chant is to open the celebration, foster the unity of those who have been gathered, introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical season or festivity, and accompany the procession of the priest and ministers. Clearly, you also can't have a "majestic" or "alive" song during certain seasons such as Lent and, say, funeral masses.

THE ENTRANCE CHANT OR SONG

§1. After the entire liturgical assembly has been gathered,
an Entrance chant or song is sung as the procession
with the priest, deacon, and ministers enters the church.
“The purpose of this chant is to open the celebration,
foster the unity of those who have been gathered,
introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical season or festivity,
and accompany the procession of the priest and ministers.”

§2. Care must be taken in the treatment of
the texts of psalms, hymns, and songs in the Liturgy.
Verses and stanzas should not be omitted arbitrarily
in ways that risk distorting their content.
While not all musical pieces require that all verses or stanzas be sung,
verses should be omitted only if the text to be sung forms a coherent whole.

§3. The singing of an antiphon and psalm during the entrance procession
has been a long-standing tradition in the Roman Liturgy.
Antiphons and psalms may be drawn from the official liturgical books
—the Graduale Romanum, or the Graduale Simplex—
or from other collections of antiphons and psalms.

§4. Other hymns and songs may also be sung at the Entrance,
providing that they are in keeping with the purpose of the Entrance chant or song.
[“The purpose of this chant is to open the celebration,
foster the unity of those who have been gathered,
introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical season or festivity,
and accompany the procession of the priest and ministers.”]

§5. The texts of antiphons, psalms, hymns, and songs for the Liturgy
must have been approved
either by the conference of Catholic bishops or by the local diocesan bishop.
