thank you talaga...

Have you tried "Life Forevermore?"
I love that song. . . shame we don't sing it sa wakes though I think it's perfect for them.

If I Could Touch You - the BEST kaya lang the times we sang it sa wake or libing nag-iyakan din mga tao. :'( (maybe its not so much the song but the emotion of the moment)

One time we sang for the mass for a friend na cremated na yung remains. For the the recessional while the urn was being brought out, we sang I Will Sing Forever. The family appreciated it so much that they even recommended us to their friends for weddings and masses of whatever sort. :P

okidoki...i'll go try if i could touch you...maganda nga tune nun...iniisip ko pananatili kaso parang napakalalim ng message kung pampatay(alam ko based sa song of ruth yun)...pero yun nga iniisip ko...
san po makikita yung life forevermore?
thanks again...

Wala pa yata sa songbook yung Life forevermore e. Kasama yata yun sa bagong CD?

Magandang kantahin sa libing or wake? Why dont you try, "I am the bread of life", me tagalog version din yun e, "Ako ang Buhay"

The refrain goes " At bubuhayin kita....." sa English " And I will raise him up....."

Cheers... ;D

Life Forevermore was recorded in the Song for Skeptics album of JMM. The soloists who recorded Life Forevermore were Sr. Bubbles, and Fr. RB, who are both Bukas Palad Alumni. Bukas Palad sang as back-up in that recording.

We sing I Will Sing Forever sa recessional ng mga wakes. Of course, the version we sing during wakes is the more solemn version which does not include the "Ma Ma Ye Do Bap Ba Re Ba..."

Jon2
03.06.24, 12:55 PM
umm, kinakanta namin i am the bread of life pero para sa entrance/processional song...at di sa recessional.
umm, di ba mabilis yung i will sing forever? hehehe... ;D
again..thanks a lot! ;)

It's been a season of loss for me and my family, and Bukas Palad's music has greatly helped us weather our grief and loneliness. I'd like to share the songs which have been most meaningful to me and the family these past few weeks. Maybe they can help inspire and sustain others as well. I guess this is also my way of thanking BP for being there for us all this time.

Songs from Tinapay ng Buhay I strongly recommend for wakes and funerals are: Tinapay ng Buhay Huwag Kang Mangamba Breath of God The Face of God Kung 'Yong NanaisinOther songs from other albums which have helped a lot are: Hindi Kita Malilimutan Tanging Yaman Mariang Ina Ko In My HeartAnd there are even songs from the upcoming Let Your Praises Be Heard that have found their way into my heart and into my prayers: Come to My Aid Love Like Rain We Are Yours All Shall Be Well Arms of Love

kami walang kamatayang In Him Alone. (mapa misa, kasal, patay ... name it nakanta na namin yun dun.) Yun ang song for all occassions namin. hehe. balak na ngang palitan ang pangalan namin ng In Hymn Alone. :)

Any arrangement of Psalm 23 "The Lord is My Shepherd" is appropriate. This, in fact, is the responsorial psalm of Masses for the Dead.

I personally like "One Thing I Ask" by Paulo Tirol (Hangad). The first line goes "One thing I ask, to dwell in the house of the Lord all my days." Bagay na bagay.

Jon2
03.07.05, 12:08 PM
ok...thanks talaga...sir ali, sorry to hear about that...condolence...
umm, di ko alam yung "the Lord is my sheperd"...alam ko lang e valleys of green pero medyo kinakalawang na utak ko at di ko na alam kung pano kantahin yun completely....like i said, songbooks and albums are really rare here...the most common e yung mga praise albums nina don moen (ba yun)....kaya nga am glad that I found all about bukas palad, hangad and other jmm artists.
i'll go consider all those songs that you've given... ;)
God bless...

(galing na pala ako ateneo and got some songbooks...even bought the comic: The Greatest King...ganda...simple pero ganda...heheheh)

I would just like to ask, what is the usual flow during funeral masses? I mean, are there special parts of the Mass na different from the usual Sunday masses?

I would just like to know whether I need to prepare some special songs for certain parts aside from Communion and Offertory.

Jon2
03.07.21, 09:31 PM
umm, alam ko pag special songs like mga tinanong down below e usually pagkatapos ng misa .... sa amin kasi ang kinakanta namin during communion and offertory are songs that speaks about the Body and Blood of Christ....and not songs which we would like to dedicate dun sa namatayan...it's a mass after all...pwede pa pag recessional...
no special parts like pag binebendisyonan na yung patay or something, but i did see some masses para sa patay na may kumanta habang ginagawa yun...

pakiliwanagan nga kami dito...salamat po...
Godbless

Basically, the Mass for the Dead is no different from the regular mass, as what Jon2 had said. As for the choice of songs, I think the the best are the ones that speak of eternal life. And as I posted earlier, any version of Psalm 23 (The Lord is My Shepherd/Ang Panginoon ang Aking Pastol) is appropriate, it being the psalm for this particular liturgy.

The only difference is the Eulogy and the Rite of Blessing of the body usually done at the end of the Mass. Sometimes, the priest allows a moment for paying respect to the deceased and lets the family sprinkle Holy Water on the mortal remains. Here, the choir may dedicate some songs to the dead and his/her family. "Hindi Kita Malilimutan" and "Saan Ka Man Naroroon" are just two of the songs we have been requested to sing.

Since custom may vary from parish to parish, and also among the clergy, it is still best to ask your parish priest on how he conducts the Rite of Blessing..

hmm, guys, any suggestions? jeromz needs help...
Mariang Ina ko is a marian song pero pwede nyo namang kantahin yun sa recessional dahil ok lyrics nya....ok din yung mga sinabi mo.
alam mo ba yung "sino ako"? ok din yun...
ang maisusuggest ko na kanta para processional/entrance is "In Him Alone"...or kung gusto mo talalog...umm, di ko sure title: "Pag-aalay ng Puso" (ata). it goes something like this: "Minsan lamang ako daraan sa daigdig na ito kaya anuman ang mabuting maaring gawin ko ngayon..."

Koenji
03.08.22, 06:22 PM

I SHALL NOT PASS THIS WAY AGAIN

"I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

You know what you guys should try . . . some wedding songs ;)

Meron ilang kanta na pang-kasal usually ginagamit pero pag narinig mo lyrics pede din pampatay since it speaks of love that lasts forever . . . which can be interpreted as transcending planes of existence or something like that.

I have a friend in a diff choir and they were successful in pulling off songs such as The Promise (say goodbye . . . why I can hardly say . . . ) or that song na "wherever you go, I shall go . . . "

Of course risky and suited to taste pa rin . . . depende din cguro sa mga taong pupunta kung cerebral enough sila to notice the lyrics hehehe.

Here in Subic, we always sing Huwag Limutin by Fr. Arnel. I also told it to Fr. Arnel via Friendster testimonial at no reaction na man siya.

merun po ako ginawang chords guide ng life forevermore from the album Something more. maganda talaga ang music. at saka message ng songs. Puede siya for all occasions, just like In him alone and Tanging Yaman na puede awitin sa funerals, at saka puede rin sa wedding,

merun aking ginawang Midi sequence ng Life Forevermore. maganda pagkagawa. kahit nangangapa lang ako dahil wala pang piyesa available. We sung Life Forevermore on my friend funeral mass. It was indeed good music.

as a keyboard player of maradjao_magbalantay college seminary. minsan kami ang ini imbita para magkanta sa funeral mass. I suggest maganda rin ang I have Love you. maganda ang message ng song. fit siya for entrance ng funeral mass.

I think One Thing I Ask is a fitting song. We sometimes sing it as an entrance hymn for the funeral mass--solemn but not heavy. In our parish, after the priest has sprinkled holy water on the remains, friends and relatives line up for the floral offering and final viewing. I play How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place, which I think has appropriate lyrics too, instead of the usual Hindi Kita Malilimutan. Unfortunately here, Hindi Kita Malilimutan, which is a beautiful musical setting of passages from Isaiah 49, has had a stigma of being a "kantang para sa patay" when in its original context it is God himself who speaks of his faithfulness to his people through the prophet.:)

My friend's mom recently died and on her funeral we sang SINO AKO, this is one of the classics and it was just so beautiful.

Hiram sa Diyos ang aking buhay
Ikaw at ako'y tanging handog lamang.
Di ko ninais na ako'y isilang
Ngunit salamat dahil may buhay.

Ligaya ko na ako'y isilang
Pagkat tao ay mayroong dangal.
Sinong may pag-ibig, sinong nagmamahal
Kundi ang tao, Diyos ang pinagmulan,
Kung di ako umibig,
Kung di ko man bigyang halaga
Ang buhay kong handog
Ang buhay kong hiram sa Diyos
Kung di ako magmamahal, sino ako?

Yes, I do know this song ;) Yung pyesa ko nito, fortunately, ay fresh as new pa rin (it's in an infrequently-used songbook, rarely ko sya ginagamit sa mass kaya parang bagong-bago pa yung pyesa, although the book is almost 10 years with me).

[Or something like that]

Thanks Kumintang for the trivia

yes prince paulo - ang pie jesu ay isa lang sa part ng requiem mass- it is a mass for the dead pag sinabing requiem.

Thanks for the trivia! Haha!

Pwede kaya to sa Good Friday?

A very appropriate recessional song would be "Irish Blessing (Blessing Prayer)" by Rev. Fr. Robert "Bob" Fabing, SJ, an Irish-American Jesuit priest. I have the original audio and songbook, both obtained from the US.

Kapag babae ung namatay, lalo na't nanay siya, we're singing "Thank You Mama"....

Pag lalaki, wala kaming makanta... baka may maganda kayong idea....

Maraming salamat...

I assume after the mass yung tinutukoy mo, so anything goes siguro basta sa labas ng mismong rite. In that case, kung lalaki yung namatay...how about Russel and Acosta's 'Don't Fade Away'? Or Barbra Streisand's 'Papa Can You Hear Me?' (from the movie/musical Yentl) :)

@titopao... yap, pagkatapos ng misa... talagang may picture taking sa family, friends, etc nung namatay with the coffin...

* Edit: I do not know if the sprinkling of holy water is part of the mass. Walang kantahan during the picture-taking pero may pre-recorded background music... It was my first time to join such a photo activity during a wake and it felt a bit odd as we posed infront of the coffin for the photographer to shoot us, parang binyag/kasal nga kasi.

"I am the presider of the mass and I am duty bound to regulate what happens during the mass. The mass should not become a show of talents but praise and worship to the Almighty. Whatever secular music piece anybody wishes to add during the mass is out-of-place. They may do so before or after the mass."

'The mass should not become a show of talents but praise and worship to the Almighty.'

Mismo. Same reason why dancing *during* the mass is never permissible.
